Ex-My Chemical Romance frontman, Gerard Way, is back for the first time since 2016 with his latest spooky release: Baby You’re A Haunted House.
Appropriately released just in time for the Halloween season, the track is about our inner ghosts and how it feels being in love while dealing with our own demons. It’s fuzzy, lo-fi pop sound resembles some of Way’s previous work, specifically reminiscent to ‘Zero Zero‘ from his 2014 album, Hesitant Alien.
Way stated that he “tried not to overthink it too much” and that’s obvious from the get-go. Diving straight into the chorus, the track is simple but catchy, short but sweet.
The track features Mikey Way on bass, Tom Resulo on drums and Ian Fowles on guitar as stated in Gerard’s Instagram post:
A lyric-video has also been released. Directed by Claire Marie Vogel, the video depicts four skeletons seemingly playing the track on a fictional TV show hosted by another skeleton. The video embraces a retro, VHS tape aesthetic which relates with the track’s lo-fi sound.
Since the split of My Chemical Romance back in 2013, Gerard Way has dedicated his time to working on projects of his own. As well as releasing his own debut album, Hesitant Alien, in 2014, Way has also been working on a TV adaptation for his comic book series, The Umbrella Academy, which is debuting on Netflix sometime next year.
